#1192 Australian Pates Pottery Clog
Pottery clog from Pates Potteries in Sydney, Australia, in operation from 1945 to 1990. This shoe is marked
with the original Pates impress, thus is known to be circa 1946--an unusual find. Pates is most known for its green
with brown or red hand spongeware, and there were actually 27 different shades of green maintained for use by their chemists.
A mottled effect, coupled with a flow effect, was achieved with the sponge and the item was then dipped in clear glaze. This
piece came from a Brisbane auction house with one other clog. Size is 4.7 x 2.4; 5.1 oz. Condition report:
Excellent. Only the minor crazing typical of all Pates ware.
#1270 Late 1800s Thin German
Porcelain Cabinet Shoe

This is an extremely delicate porcelain child's high-top cabinet shoe from the late 1800s. It is discussed in Porcelain
and Pottery Shoes by Anne Wojtkowski, pg 115L3. Display side has embossed flowers, branches which are gilded along
with the laces and the left rim. Shelf side is clear glazed with some relief design. There is a tiny bit of kiln burn to the
rim and a mold pull; gild has worn, but it actually has a lovely patina. See pictures and judge for yourself. Light shines
right through this shoe which is eggshell thin. Wonderfully light to hold. Size is 4 x 3"; 2.0 oz.
